Round

Illustration for Illustration Friday, this week the topic is "scary".

This sinister painting of Bruegel was my childhood nightmare, I remember it from a book in the dark living room of my parents' house.

I'm not frightened of it any more, so I have portrayed two of the characters of the eerie painting posing like friends.

Sometimes I have to draw complicated scenes where there is a large number of figures in the frame and I can't help getting in a muddle with the shading and the details.

In this image the focal point is the priest that is making his way between the seats of a theater, but I haven't managed to achieve the effect I wanted with the ink so I need to simplify forms with the shades of grey.

In the first image the focus is not clear so I have allowed myself to illuminate the area where the priest is situated so that it is identified at a glance.

This is a good trick that works well in these kind of frames.
